Why the small square suits
Light on the back, kind to the budget.
A big round bale earns its keep on a busy yard with machinery and plenty of mouths to feed. For a single horse, a few sheep or a row of hutches through the winter, a stack of small squares is far gentler on the back and far easier to plan around. One person can carry them, they slide neatly into the boot of a car, and you can take home a dozen at a time rather than tying up a barn for the whole season.
It is the size we most often see going out to one and two horse yards, to smallholders keeping a handful of sheep or alpacas, and to families feeding rabbits, guinea pigs and hens right the way through the cold months.
The particulars
What comes off the trailer
- Weight: roughly 18 to 22kg a bale, shifting a little with the cut and the weather.
- Size: standard conventional squares, near enough 36 inches long by 18 by 14.
- Twine: double twined so they hold firm while you handle them.
- Storage: kept under our barn roof from the day they are baled until you collect.
- Order size: no minimum whatsoever. Two bales is perfectly welcome if that is all you are after.
Getting them home
Two simple ways
- Collect from the farm. Give us a ring first and we will have your bales stacked and ready to load.
- Local delivery. We can run a trailer load round to you, priced on the miles and the number of bales. See delivery.
- Settle up on the day. Cash, card or bank transfer, whichever suits you best.
